Warigami has two kinds of maps -- ⚔ Melee and ⚡ Use Map Settings -- and several ways to play them: the tutorial, skirmish against the AI, campaigns, and LAN multiplayer.

Warigami is an origami real-time strategy game. It gives you two kinds of maps and several ways to play them: a straight fight against the computer, a scripted mission with objectives, a campaign of your own, or a match against friends on your network.

The two map kinds

Every Warigami map is one of two kinds, chosen by its author when the map is created in the Map Builder, and shown in the lobby.

⚔ Melee

A Melee map is standard RTS: every player gets the same start at their flag, the stock rules apply, and you win by destroying every enemy’s Palace or Prime — losing either eliminates a player. Generated skirmish maps are Melee maps.

⚡ Use Map Settings

A Use Map Settings map carries its own rules — placed armies, per-map costs and stats, vision, supply rules, fixed alliances — and triggers that script what happens and who wins, much like the classic “UMS” maps of older strategy games. The tutorial is one. See Scenarios and Triggers.

Ways to play

ModeWhat it is
TutorialThe First Fold, Refolded — a voiced, guided first mission.
SkirmishA generated map against the Crimson AI at four difficulties.
CampaignA series of custom maps played in order, with briefings and unlocks.
MultiplayerTwo to six people over a local network, up to twelve colours in any alliance layout.
Map BuilderMake your own maps, scenarios and campaigns, and Test Play them.

Tutorial and Skirmish

Both are single-player. The tutorial walks you through the fundamentals in about fifteen minutes; skirmish is the open fight. See Skirmish and Campaign.

Campaign

Play a series of custom maps in order from the Campaign menu, with per-mission briefings and unlock rules. Campaigns are built in the Campaign Designer.

Multiplayer

Host or join a game with up to six human players on the same network. Warigami uses deterministic lockstep netcode with reconnect recovery. See Multiplayer.

Custom maps

Build your own — Melee or Use Map Settings — in the Map Builder, then play them alone, against the AI, or over LAN. Custom maps transfer to everyone in a lobby automatically.
