Map Editor Overview
Warigami ships with the Map Builder the campaign is made with: sculpt terrain, place armies, script scenarios, decorate, and file it all in a Library. Every map is ⚔ Melee or ⚡ Use Map Settings, chosen at creation.
Warigami ships with a full Map Builder for making your own maps, scenarios, and campaigns. You can shape terrain, place armies, script missions, and decorate the world, then play the result solo, against the AI, or over LAN.
Opening the Builder
From the main menu choose 🗺 Map Builder. It opens straight onto the Library — your saved maps and the bundled ones — so you pick a map or start a new one before a blank canvas ever appears. A separate Campaign menu plays custom campaigns once you have built them.
Starting a map
New Map asks two things first, and both are baked in:
- Size — five presets: 40 / 56 / 72 / 96 / 128 tiles a side. A 56 is a tight two-player duel; 96 and 128 suit four to six.
- Kind — ⚔ Melee or ⚡ Use Map Settings. This cannot be changed later, and the lobby shows it so nobody is surprised.
A Melee map is a standard match. You place a 🚩 Start Spot per player and the game folds the same standard base at each flag when the match starts; no armies, no special rules. A Use Map Settings map carries placed armies, its own economy and rules, and triggers. Older maps that had triggers or tweaks were promoted to Use Map Settings automatically.
From there you have two ways to begin:
- Hand-build from a blank map, sculpting everything yourself.
- Random Map — a seed-based generator (always Melee). Enter a seed or roll it with the dice, then choose a biome, a symmetry setting for fair spawns, a water style (river, lakes, or cove), and a difficulty that scales the generator’s fortifications. Everything it makes is fully editable afterward, so a random map is just a fast starting point.
The four tabs
- ⛰ Land — shape the terrain: sculpt height, paint ground and crags, apply biomes, lay water, rivers and bridges, place solid obstacles, and set climb paths and no-build zones. See Land and Decorate.
- ⚑ Armies — players and teams, Start Spots (melee) or placed buildings, units and resource spots (UMS). See Armies and Scenario.
- ⚡ Scenario — rules, economy, trigger zones and triggers. See Armies and Scenario and Scenarios and Triggers.
- ✿ Decorate — scatter cosmetic decorations that units walk straight through. See Land and Decorate.
For saving, the Library, export and import, and campaigns, see Library and Campaigns.
Quality-of-life
- Undo / Redo for every edit, and automatic backups.
- An eyedropper (Alt+click) to sample terrain, decorations and obstacles into the pickers.
- R rotates whatever you are placing — ramps, walls, gates, obstacles, decorations.
- A Bird’s-Eye top-down view with WASD panning, plus Reset View.
- A Pointer tool with box-select, group move, and delete for placed things.
- Roughly 35 keyboard shortcuts, shown as badges on the tools.
- A Problems panel that validates the map as you work — a player with no Start Spot, entities out of bounds, an unreachable base, a trigger pointing at a zone that no longer exists.
Test Play
Test Play launches straight into the map you are editing and returns you to the editor when you leave. A Melee map needs a Blue Start Spot and at least two players; a UMS map needs Blue’s Palace and Prime and at least one other player with a Palace. The Problems panel lists anything missing before you press the button.
